Ford Technology: Part II

In our last blog post, we talked about Ford technologies that make your driving experience more enjoyable and convenient.  Today we will be focusing on Ford’s fuel-efficient technologies.

  • Automatic Start-Stop System, available on the 2013 Fusion SE. Conserving fuel and reducing emissions by turning off the engine when the vehicle comes to a complete stop and the brakes are applied, and then instantly restarting it when the brakes are released.
  • Active Grille Shutters, available on numerous models, close to reduce the aerodynamic drag on the vehicle caused by air traveling through the radiator, only opening when the engine needs cooling.
  • EcoBoost Engine, gas-turbo direct-injection engines that helps provide up to 20 percent better fuel economy without sacrificing power that drivers want.  Not only do we think it’s awesom so do a few other people it has won many awards.  In fact, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine won the prestigious International Paul Pietsch Award 2013 for technological innovation at the Auto Motor and Sport Best Cars Awards.  This newest award is the fifth that the engine has won globally since launching in the spring of 2012, including the Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club in Great Britain, a Breakthrough Award from Popular Mechanics magazine in the U.S, and 2012 International Engine of The Year from Engine Technology International. The EcoBoost Engine is by far the most important fuel-efficient technology that Ford vehicles are equipped with!
